MDEC Summer Programme The Ministry and Department of Education and Culture (MDEC) is hosting its annual Summer Programme, which began on July 8. This year the programme will run until Friday, July 26 under the theme 'Youth Development Through Skill Building.'
The three-week programme is a combination of the Library and Sunflower Summer Programmes. It is being offered in ten locations: Road Town, Long Look/East End, Sea Cow's Bay, Brewer's Bay, Cane Garden Bay, Cappoon's Bay, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, The Valley and North Sound in Virgin Gorda.
The programme, which is designed for children between the ages of 5 and16 years, offers a range of activities such as: sewing, art and craft, baking, cooking, woodwork, steel pan, drama, typing, reading, storytelling, computer skills, and a variety of field trips.
Participants will also be exposed to sessions on Drug Awareness, Disaster Preparedness, Etiquette Skills, and Conflict Resolution.
The Ministry will hold a closing ceremony on Friday, July 26, with the participants of the ten locations where this programme has been offered. The ceremony will be held at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall, where the general public will have the opportunity to view the work of the participants from 11:00-11:30a.m. The closing ceremony will begin at 11:30a.m. For more information please contact the Library Services Department at 494-3428.
