Monday, June 17 - JAMAICA'S CHRIS Gayle was named both Man-of-the-Match and Man-of-the-Series at finale of the five-match one-day series between the West Indies and New Zealand in Arnos Vale, St. Vincent, yesterday.

Gayle played a substantial role with both bat and ball in the series, helping the West Indies to a 3-1 win over the visitors, which concluded with yesterday's nail biting four-wicket win.

Yesterday he hit eight fours and a six and scored 67 runs off 78 balls. He took four wickets for 54 off his 10 overs with his off-spinners.

Gayle added 60 with fellow opener Shivnarine Chander-paul off 10.2 overs, before Chanderpaul had to retire hurt after being hit on the left forearm by pacer Shane Bond.

Chanderpaul returned at the fall of the sixth wicket to lash 13 runs from the final four balls of the match from fast bowler Dar-yl Tuffey, to inspire the remarkable West Indies victory over New Zealand.

The home team got up off the last delivery to successfully overhaul New Zealand's formidable 291 for eight off 50 overs for the loss of six wickets.

Jamaican Wavell Hinds helped retain local hope with a six and a four in smashing an unbeaten 18 off 14 balls.

The victory wrapped up the five-match Cable & Wireless series 3-1 for the home team. It was the highest total ever successfully chased by the West Indies, surpassing the 287 for five achieved against Australia in Georgetown in 1995.
