HERE, HERE: World boxing champ Julian "The Hawk" Jackson, recently inducted into the newly-formed Virgin Islands Sports Hall of Fame (VISHF), as well as the venerable international African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame (AAESHF), used his bully pulpit to tweak the conscience. According to an article in the St. Thomas Source, Jackson held the community's feet to the fire for treating youth sports programs like the proverbial stepchild. Also inducted at the August 18, 2001 gala were locals Emile Griffith, Valmy Thomas, Horace Clarke, and Alvin McBean, along with Negro Leagues baseball player Alfonso "Piggy" Gerard and pro basketball player Glen "Kimble" Williams. Putting his elbow grease where his mouth is, Jackson himself fights the good fight when it comes to lending a hand to local youth (see the Caribia Digest article written by Oswin Sewer)...
